Common Disorders & Treatments
Intravitreal Injection
This is an injection into the vitreous, which is the jelly-like substance inside the eye. It is performed to place medicines inside the eye, near the retina.
Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is a disease of the macula – a small area in the retina at the back of the eye. The macula allows you to see fine details clearly.
Detached & Torn Retina
A retinal detachment occurs when the retina is pulled away from its normal position. The retina does not work when it is detached.
Diabetic Retinopathy
High blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels in the retina. The damage to retinal vessels is referred to as diabetic retinopathy.
Floaters & Flashes
You may sometimes see small specks or clouds moving in your field of vision. These are called floaters. Floaters are actually tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous.
Macular Pucker
The macular normally lies flat against the back of the eye. When wrinkles, creases or bulges form on the macula it is called macular pucker.
Macular Hole
If the vitreous gel in your eye sticks to the macula and is unable to pull away, tissues stretch and tear, forming a macular hole.
Retinopathy of Prematurity
In some premature babies, the blood vessels growth is incomplete. If the vessels grow and branch abnormally the baby develops ROP.
Vitrectomy Surgery
Vitrectomy is a type of eye surgery that treats disorders of the retina and vitreous.
