PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Welcome to Southern Vitreoretinal Associates.  As a new patient, that means you have been referred to us by your regular physician for a medical matter that requires the specialized skills our physicians acquired through extensive training in the sub-specialty of Vitreoretinal Surgery. All of our patients are referred to us by general ophthalmologists and optometrists. We address specific conditions and patients then return to their referring physician for continued, general care. We value the partnership approach we have with our referring physicians and we all agree that patients benefit by having a strong team of professionals caring for your health needs.

Dr. Logan Brooks established the practice in 1990, at which time he was the first retinal surgeon between Pensacola, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Gainesville. In 1993 he formed a partnership with Dr. Robert Steinmetz and renamed the practice Southern Vitreoretinal Associates. The partnership continued to expand over the next 10 years to meet the growing needs of a maturing populationwith Dr. Charles Newell joining in 1999, Dr. Christopher Willingham joining in 2004, Dr. Paul M. Malsky joining in 2006 and Dr. Emily D. Ashmore joining in 2007.

We are now one of the largest vitreoretinal practices in the Southeast.  We work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists in Florida, Georgia and Alabama who refer their patients to us for specialized services.  Our six board certified ophthalmologists have the highest level of extensive training and experience in treating the broad spectrum of retinal diseases from infancy well into adulthood. All of our surgeons completed two years of fellowship education and training beyond the general ophthalmology criteria. While our primary practice is still located in Tallahassee, we also serve physicians and patients in our other offices located in Panama City, Florida; Albany, Georgia; Valdosta, Georgia and in our satellite office in Dothan, Alabama.
